History of Room 401

After the effort and time we spent in deciding the designs of rooms 401 and 402, we are very pleased with the current state of the rooms. The niches inside the room are original. The ceiling decorations were reshaped by our carver. The bathroom used to be a storage area accessible from room 402. You will notice the stone wall in the bathroom. There was a cooking and utility area outside this room. You can see the niches on the exterior walls. We thought it would be best to maintain its natural look while designing the room.

The walls were cleaned using a tool resembling a geologist's fine and pointed pickaxe.
Smooth surfaces help in the oxidization process and enable the stone to harden.
A smooth surface tends to collect moisture, leading to peeling or flaking.
The walls were constructed in this manner hundreds of years ago.
The bed in the room, the desk, the wardrobe doors, and the window frames were all made in the carpentry workshop on-site. The stones used for restoration were also dimensioned in the field.

As MDC Hotel is located in a heritage area, we took care to keep the rooms in their original size.

You will notice drilled holes in the ceilings of all bathrooms and some other rooms. These increase the necessary air circulation to preserve the cave surfaces. Without ventilation, moisture accumulates, causing damage to walls and ceilings.

Construction started in October 2009. The area to the left of the stairs leading to the reception, the restaurant, and the area to the left of the restaurant were completed, as well as all rooms extending to the right side, and were made ready for opening in February 2011. The construction of 22 rooms and common areas took 2 years to complete. Without disrupting the original cave structure of our hotel, once upon a time, 70 workers worked daily on the site to provide our guests with a more comfortable and cozy environment.
