History of Room No. 304

Rooms 303, 304, and 305 were challenging during the design phase. These houses are between 200-299 years old. However, this area has not been legally researched until the late 1920s.

About 20% of the terrace behind these three rooms and the rooms were legally part of the neighbors' properties. Before construction, we had to negotiate to acquire this area. We could only buy the top part because his house passed under the area. The long entryway and bedroom in this room were primarily not made of pink stones, as opposed to the bathroom, which was well supported. The bathroom was made of white and yellow stones from the volcanic rocks of Cappadocia, and white and yellow stones are softer structures. Therefore, it was worn out and needed to be rebuilt. Decorative niches and windows were in place.

The ceiling decoration and seating bench were also there, but they needed touch-ups as the originals were carved. The wardrobe was expanded to accommodate clothes. The cooking area was outside at the entrance, probably used by both 304 and 305. There was a drop in the entrance to the stable for Room 306. We are not sure, but Rooms 304, 305, and 306 may have once shared a stable.

The walls were cleaned using a tool resembling a geologist's fine, pointed picks.
Smooth surfaces assist in the oxidation process, allowing the stone to harden.
A smooth surface tends to trap moisture, leading to peeling or flaking.
The walls were built this way hundreds of years ago.
The bed in the room, the work desk, the wardrobe doors, and the window frames were made in the carpentry workshop on-site. The stones used for restoration were also dimensioned in the field.

Since MDC Hotel is located in a heritage area, we strived to keep the rooms in their original dimensions.

You will notice drilled holes in the ceilings of all bathrooms and some other rooms. These enhance air circulation necessary to preserve cave surfaces. Without ventilation, moisture accumulates, causing damage to walls and ceilings.

Construction began in October 2009. The restaurant on the left of the stairs leading to the reception, and the area to the left of the restaurant, including the reception and all rooms extending to the right, were completed and made ready for opening in February 2011. The construction of a total of 22 rooms and common areas took 2 years. At one point, 70 workers were employed daily on the construction site to provide our guests with a more comfortable and cozy environment without compromising the original cave structure of our hotel.
