History of Our Room 402
Welcome to your private Turkish Hammam (Bath). A very wealthy family must have resided here as this room was also connected to room 401. The closet hides the stoned wall used to close in the doorway. On the wall to the right of the bed was another access to the storage area for the dwelling. İt is now the bathroom for 401. The small step at the entry way could not be altered, yet we were able to round it to lessen the chance of tripping. Our carvers designed the head board and the Arabic script in the Hamam. The bed was originally a wine pressing area. The stairs leading to the bed were reformed by our workers. The room to the left was a sitting room, the bench is original we trimmed it up a bit. We found a piece of an old fireplace and had our mason construct the one you see. The alcoves in the rooms are original all stone lamp mounts were carved on site. The ceiling ornament was also done by one of carvers. The bathroom was the original sleeping quarters. The walls were cleaned by using a hammer resembling a geologists pick. The rough surfaces help the oxidization process which allows the stone to harden. A smooth surface would tend to collect moisture and cause flaking. This is the way the walls were done hundreds of years ago. You will also notice holes bored into ceilings of all bathrooms and some other rooms. These enhance air circulation which is necessary in preservation of the cave surfaces. Without ventilation moisture would collect and the walls and ceilings would deteriorate. The bed, desk, closet doors and windows frames were made on site. Stones were also sized on site. Construction started in Kasım 2009. Standing at the bottom of the stairs the area to left of the restaurant, the restaurant and reception buildings as well as all the rooms accessible via the stairs and extending all the way to the right were completed and ready for opening in February 2011. The areas above the main patio level and to left of the restaurant were faced during the same interval. At one time there were 70 workers on site.
