History of Our Room 206
Do to erosion and the softness of the white sand the ceiling of this room had to be reconstructed. We had to insert a wall between the bedroom and bathroom to minimize the height of the arches. At the far end of the entrance you will notice the winery. This is where they crushed the grapes and juice was gathered in the pot shape cut out on the left. The bedroom and bathroom were the actual stable area for this family. Sorry fort he step but we were restricted in altering flor levels. You see the “coop” where pigeons where kept. While walking through the various valleys most “coops” faced with a replica of a fence or gate that allows human access. The pigeons have a separate hole to enter, in this case located to the right of the actual coop. Unfortunately the arches hide the alcoves where animals were tethered to and fed. After you enter the bathroom behind the door you will notice stone blocks in the wall. More can be seen on the same wall up higher and further in. This is where a door and window to the original bedroom of this family dwelling. That bedroom is now the bathroom for room 301. İn many instances each dwelling house both animals and people. This was probably all based on wealth. The walls were cleaned by using a hammer resembling a geologists pick. The rough surfaces help the oxidization process which allows the stone to harden. A smooth surface would tend to collect moisture and cause flaking. This is the way the walls were done hundreds of years ago. You will also notice holes bored into ceilings of all bathrooms and some other rooms. These enhance air circulation which is necessary in preservation of the cave surfaces. Without ventilation moisture would collect and the walls and ceilings would deteriorate. The bed, desk, closet doors and windows frames were made on site. Stones were also sized on site. Construction started in Kasım 2009. Standing at the bottom of the stairs the area to left of the restaurant, the restaurant and reception buildings as well as all the rooms accessible via the stairs and extending all the way to the right were completed and ready for opening in February 2011. The areas above the main patio level and to left of the restaurant were faced during the same interval. At one time there were 70 workers on site.
