Cappadocia is surrounded by caves. Hotels carved by hand into the soft volcanic rock \u2014 many of them hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago \u2014 can be found here. The caves have been used as homes, monasteries, churches and now hotels. In G\u00f6reme alone there are more than 30 cave hotels offering everything from one star to five. Among these hotels, MDC Hotel<\/a> stands out with its restaurant and garden facilities, the different activities it offers, and close to 50 years of experience in tourism.<\/p>\n I would like to tell you a little about my stay here. First impressions were wonderful. The room had an exotic feel, with warm Turkish kilims, beautiful cushions covered in colourful Turkish fabrics, and what looked like antique chairs. Toiletries were provided, along with a hair dryer. In the room there was a cleverly concealed mini fridge, a small television and a few chairs. The WiFi was surprisingly good for a room with such thick walls.<\/p>\n Right across the street was the view we came to experience. Magnificent rock pillars that give you the feeling of being in a fairy-tale land. A night with the lights of distant villages flickering far away was beautiful, too.<\/p>\n There are many things that set this hotel apart from the others. In my opinion, the helpfulness of everyone working here matters a great deal. On our second day in Cappadocia we wanted to hike in the Rose Valley, so we were dropped off free of charge, with a map, at a time that suited us perfectly. Who goes to such lengths? This is not a sponsored post. I was not given any special treatment. It is a wonderful hotel to rest at while visiting the region. Comfortable and warm \u2014 exotic and romantic \u2014 I felt everything I had hoped to feel by staying in a cave hotel.<\/p>\n When I settled into my room, I realised that the room I was staying in had a story of its own. It went like this: When we discovered this room, it was actually being used by local farmers for storage. After cleaning out the room, we discovered a tandoor oven where the bed now stands. Unfortunately, most of the tandoors cannot be displayed, because they are centred in the larger rooms and beds now occupy the areas where the tandoors stand. The area currently used as the bathroom within the room once functioned as a winemaking area. They would crush the grapes and let the juice flow into the collection basin carved into the wall to the left of the bathroom steps. When we discovered the room, the front wall had eroded away. It was therefore restored using natural stones from the Cappadocia region. The interior walls are blackened from the tandoor used by the people who once lived here.<\/p>\n Reading an explanation like this made me even happier.
