The Melendiz River in Cappadocia<\/h4>\n

The Ihlara Valley is one of the most exciting and enjoyable places to explore. It is a place where you can see the richness of diversity, and its natural formation will enchant you. The way the Melendiz River flows through this valley, in harmony with the history around it, is deeply impressive. The Melendiz River in Cappadocia is a stream running through the Ihlara Valley, home to walking trails of varying lengths and, in ancient times, an important religious centre.<\/p>\n

Around the river there are tea houses and places where you can have a meal. The Melendiz River is 14 km long and is known to flow all the way to Lake Tuz. One of the most important tips for those visiting the Melendiz River is to complete the walking trails along it, because at certain points along the trails you will be met with wonderful views of the Ihlara Valley. It is an activity well worth taking on, both to capture beautiful photographs and to savour this unique valley to the fullest. <\/span><\/p>\n

About a Trip to the Melendiz River<\/h4>\n

The area around the Melendiz River is open all year round, regardless of season, and entry is subject to a fee. Admission to this area costs 20 TL, and visits are permitted between 08:00 and 17:00.<\/p>\n

The Melendiz River route begins at Ihlara and exits at the village of Selime. The stream is surrounded by volcanic rock. In this region, home to an inactive volcano, you can encounter a wide variety of soil and rock formations. On the descent into the valley there is a stairway of 400 steps in total, and at the exit there is a stairway of roughly the same number. It is therefore worth resting along the way through the valley before making your way up to the exit.<\/p>\n

There are a great many churches in the area around the Melendiz River, and most of them have kept their natural structure intact. You can get very detailed information about the churches in particular. More than 10 churches are found in this area, and each one has its own unique story. How to Get to the Melendiz River<\/h4>\n

To reach the Melendiz River, you actually need to come to the Ihlara Valley, as the Melendiz River in Cappadocia flows through it. There are two route options for getting here. One is the Nev\u015fehir-Aksaray road, a divided dual-carriageway that makes for a very comfortable journey. Our second option is the Derinkuyu road, which is more of a track-style, single-lane road. If you choose this route, beautiful scenery will accompany you along the way.<\/p>\n

Perhaps you want to travel to this region via Istanbul. In that case, there are also two options. The first is to take the Bolu Mountain road. If you choose this route, bear in mind that it is an old road, so it will be a less comfortable option in terms of the journey \u2014 but it will let you fill your lungs with the clean air of Bolu Mountain and take in the region’s lush green scenery. The second route is to come via Ni\u011fde. This road is relatively more comfortable than the first option, and if you choose it you will pass through several villages. I would recommend stopping at the village fountains and having a chat with the locals.<\/p>\n
