Surrounded by churches, chapels and monasteries, Cappadocia is also home to works of Seljuk architecture. Though not quite as numerous as the churches and <a href=\"https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/valleys-to-visit-in-cappadocia\/\">valleys<\/a>, the Seljuk monuments to visit in Cappadocia are still plentiful.<\/p>\n<p>If you are planning a trip to Cappadocia for a historical tour, we strongly recommend staying at <a href=\"https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/en\/\">a hotel<\/a> that is steeped in history.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Sar\u0131han Caravanserai<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Located in the Damsa Valley, the Sar\u0131han Caravanserai is known to have been built in the time of Izzeddin Keykavus II, and perhaps at his command. The year of its construction is 1249.<\/p>\n<p>It is the last known example built by the Seljuk sultans, for no caravanserai was built after Sar\u0131han. It is the second-oldest mosque in \u00c7avu\u015fin. Covering an area of 35 square metres, the mosque was later enlarged when its capacity eventually proved insufficient.<\/p>\n<p>It has a minaret in the Seljuk style. It is the most important Ottoman monument in Mustafapa\u015fa and was built in 1900. The mosque has a wooden minbar inlaid with mother-of-pearl, and the inscription on this minbar records that the mosque was commissioned by Seyfeddin Sungur Bey and built by the master craftsman Hoca Ebubekir. The mosque has twin minarets, and in it we see Islamic and Gothic art side by side. The mosque burned in the 18th century, and its roof was afterwards propped up with posts. As a result, its original form has been lost.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Sultanhan<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Sultanhan also takes its place among the Seljuk monuments to visit in Cappadocia. Its inscription records that Sultanhan was built in 1229 by Alaaddin Keykubat I. Its architect was Muhammed bin Havlen el D\u0131m\u0131\u015fki. It was left in ruins by a fire that broke out in 1278 and was repaired by the governor Seraceddin Ahmed bin El Hasan.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_518\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-518\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-518 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan.jpg\" alt=\"Seljuk Monuments to Visit in Cappadocia\" width=\"1280\" height=\"791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan-1024x633.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan-768x475.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan-696x430.jpg 696w, https:\/\/mdchotel.com\/blog-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/sultanhan-1068x660.jpg 1068w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-518\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Sultanhan Caravanserai<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>The Ta\u015fk\u0131npa\u015fa Mosque<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A legacy of the Karamanid period, the Ta\u015fk\u0131npa\u015fa Mosque stands in the village of Damsa. Its portal is decorated with borders adorned with geometric patterns. Today, sadly, it has been painted over with white limewash and made unsightly. Its mihrab was made using the walnut inlay technique and is on display at the Ankara Ethnography Museum.
