Places To Visit In Urgup; <\/strong>Wish Hill (Temenni Tepesi)<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

It is in the first place among the places to visit in Urgup. It is located right in the center of Urgup. The hill, which is made up of rocks, got its name because of a rag tied to a tomb on the summit and begging. Although the name has been used for many years, it is frequently encountered in Sumerian texts.<\/p>\n

Not only today but even in ancient times, was this place considered sacred. Seljuk sultans who were killed here in the 13th century4.<\/p>\n

It is said that there are also tombs of Ruknettin K\u0131l\u0131carslan and 3rd Alaeddin Keykubat. According to another known fact, the tombs here were built for their memory and their bodies were seen in Konya.<\/p>\n

Places To Visit In Urgup; <\/strong>Maz\u0131 Underground City<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When we travel to the Hellenistic period, we come across Maz\u0131 Underground City. The history of these tombs and churches goes back to 2000 years ago. Phrygia has hosted many civilizations until the Lydian and Byzantine periods.<\/p>\n

According to a rumour, the name of the underground city is derived from the word “Mazata” and its meaning is “Ancient City”.<\/p>\n

4 different entrances are used to enter Maz\u0131 Underground City, which consists of 8 floors.<\/p>\n

There are stables on the ground floor of the city.<\/p>\n

Livelihood is known as animal husbandry in the place where an estimated 6,000 people live. There is also a storage room, cellar, sitting area, and bathroom.<\/p>\n

Places To Visit In Urgup; Three Beauties<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

Legend has it that a king who lived a long time ago had a beautiful daughter. But they started to have a great love for each other with one of the shepherd girls. The king, who thinks that “the most beautiful daughter of the great king cannot fall in love with a shepherd”, does not allow them to get married. But the love between the shepherd and the daughter was so great that the king’s daughter ran away to the shepherd. Come and go, the two of them will have a sweet child. The shepherd and the girl think that the king will forgive them when he sees his grandson and they set off towards the palace. Unfortunately, this lovely family faces the king’s wrath before they can enter the palace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The king was so angry that he ordered his soldiers to kill them. Knowing that they will die when they are caught, the girl prayed to God, “Show us a miracle and save us from this torment.” God accepted her prayers and turned them both to stone.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Fairy Chimneys, which we call the Three Beauties, consist of two large and one small Fairy Chimneys. That is mother, father, and child.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the most photographed place in Cappadocia. At the same time, what makes it different from other Fairy Chimneys is that the Three Beauties have a hat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Urgup Museum<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u00dcrg\u00fcp Museum, located on Wish Hill, has a single-domed structure. The museum opened its doors to visitors in 1971.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the entrance of the museum, a 10-million-year-old female mammoth fossil found as a result of excavations in Mustafapasa is exhibited.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the exhibition hall in the museum, handmade items are belonging to the old Orange Age, Hellenistic and Roman periods.<\/span><\/p>\n
